Lesson 1.10

Building a Simple Trading Plan

⏱ ± 1 min read · 👁 66 readers

A trading plan does not have to be thick. What matters is that it is specific and that you can stick to it. Here is a one-page framework.

One plan before each trade. Write down the rules so decisions can be reviewed after the session.

Minimum contents

  • Market & hours: which instrument, which session (e.g. XAUUSD, London session).
  • Bias: how you determine direction (e.g. H4 structure + position relative to the MA200).
  • Entry setup: a one-sentence condition that must be met.
  • Stop loss: where the scenario is considered invalid.
  • Target & management: where to take profit / how to trail.
  • Risk: percentage per position and a daily loss limit.
  • Prohibitions: e.g. no trading 15 minutes before/after high-impact news.

Regular review

Run at least 30–50 positions according to the plan, record them in a journal, and only then evaluate. Change one variable per review so you know what made the difference.

Key points

  • A plan you follow beats a perfect plan you ignore.
  • Discipline is measured by how often you follow the plan, not by the result of a single position.
